WANTED: Turkey Wrangler
I never thought it would happen in my lifetime, but it is: Blood Freak -- the world's only giant were-turkey monster, anti-drug/ pro-religion gore film ever made -- is making its cable broadcasting debut tonight on TCM's Underground. For those able, please tune in at 1AM (CST). Believe me, you won't regret it. For those who can't, here's what you missed.

The 3rd Annual Christmas Craptacular All Night Movie Marathon!
I don't know about the rest of you all, but me, personally, if I could, I would crawl into a hole around the 20th of November and then crawl back out some time after the New Year and just let the Holiday Season pass quietly by. But I can't, so I won't. And here I am. Which means it's time for another All-Night Christmas Craptacular Movie Marathon, with me -- armed with a turkey sandwich, a pecan pie, and a bottle of booze -- vs. whatever I choose to subject myself to to celebrate the one night a year that the paper I work for doesn't print and snap me out of my traditional Holiday funk.
Originally, I had big plans for a long night of Something Weird Video sleaze-noir, in memory of the recently departed Bill Landis (-- who wrote one of the all-time great cinema bibles, The Sleazoid Express), but then, on the day before Christmas Eve, my old APEX DVD player decided to give me the finger and refused to load any more discs. And since there was no way in hell you could get me into any retail outlet until next Monday at the latest, I had to fall back on my trusty old VCR; and so, by default, settled on an 20-hour marathon of old American International dubs and VHS tapes.
And then, after all of that, with the sandwich long gone, along with most of the pie, addled, rattled and buzzing on booze and flickering images of foaming fangs, bobble-headed alien invaders, and semi-transparent giants in really big diapers, I surrendered the remote and stumbled off to bed and retired for a long overdue winter's nap.

Happy Holidays all.

10 Vid-Caps or Less Review :: Peter Bogdanovich's Targets (1968)
Fantastic flick. And I'd get into the why and whyfores but I am desperately clinging to the delusion of giving Targets the full review it truly deserves. Some day.

Meme Leech :: 20 Actresses to See
A couple weeks ago there was a meme circulating throughout a number of blogs I frequent, focusing on twenty actresses whose flickering image you really enjoyed watching. The selections I found were all impressive, but it got me to thinking again on the difference between best and most favorite. And since I haven't been around long enough to get tagged properly and have a bad habit of gate-crashing these things anyways, I decided to make my own list of actresses who may have not have made the A-list (-- or those who had but weren't all that shy about venturing into the underbelly of the Bs --) but are total aces in my humble and slightly warped estimation.

Yeah, I know that's 30 entries, not twenty. Couldn't be helped. I'm a dirty, stinking cheater. And frankly, this list could have easily been bumped up to fifty and I still would have left out a dozen or so ladies that I truly admire. (And for the record, Beverly Garland belongs on this list somewhere. But since I just did a mammoth memorial for her, I omitted her to make room for someone else.)Cheri CafaroxxxxxClaudia JenningsxxxxxDiana Rigg

Movie Poster Spotlight :: The Beverly Garland Memorial Edition.
It's been a rough couple a days for the B-Movie Brethren, and it was just made infinitely worse with the news of Beverly Garland's passing. Whether going toe to toe with a giant turnip from Venus or fighting off the lecherous advances of crazed, gator-hatin' Cajun, Miss Garland was always a gamer in these cinematically challenged epics, and she was one of my absolute favorites. And in an effort to show my respect and to celebrate her life and contributions to the genre I love, made infinitely better by her efforts, I present to you some posters and lobby cards documenting her all too brief career as the Queen of the B's.
